The Rose of the San Joaquin

Strawberry Moon

by Tom Russell

on The Rose of the San Joaquin (1995)

My father told me those Indian stories
Of a time for planting, strawberry moon
When the seeds of love sown beneath the starlight
Grow through the springtime and love renewed

Strawberry moon
Promise of spring
We plant the seed, see what time brings
Your hand in mine
Love in full bloom
Growing beneath, strawberry moon

Oh, I have followed those harvest seasons
And I have drifted with the moon and the tide
But a dream keeps calling from a distant valley
Your loving arms, your deep brown eyes

Strawberry moon
Promise of spring
We plant the seed, see what time brings
Your hand in mine
Love in full bloom
Growing beneath, strawberry moon

This winter was on me and the nights were colder
And the ice and the rain were all I've known
But I've been thinking since late December
When the weather turned warm, I'm rolling home

Strawberry moon
Promise of spring
We plant the seed, see what time brings
Your hand in mine
Love in full bloom
Growing beneath, strawberry moon
Growing beneath, strawberry moon
