Remain In Light

Once In A Lifetime

by Talking Heads

on Remain In Light (1980), The Name Of This Band Is Talking Heads (Expanded & Remastered) (1982), Stop Making Sense (1984)

And you may find yourself living in a shotgun shack
And you may find yourself in another part of the world
And you may find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobile
And you may find yourself in a beautiful house, with a beautiful
wife
And you may ask yourself-Well...How did I get here?

Letting the days go by/let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by/water flowing underground
Into the blue again/after the money's gone
Once in a lifetime/water flowing underground.

And you may ask yourself
How do I work this?
And you may ask yourself
Where is that large automobile?
And you may tell yourself
This is not my beautiful house!
And you may tell yourself
This is not my beautiful wife!
Letting the days go by/let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by/water flowing underground
Into the blue again/after the money's gone
Once in a lifetime/water flowing underground.

Same as it ever was...Same as it ever was...Same as it ever was...
Same as it ever was...Same as it ever was...Same as it ever was...
Same as it ever was...Same as it ever was...

Water dissolving...and water removing
There is water at the bottom of the ocean
Carry the water at the bottom of the ocean
Remove the water at the bottom of the ocean!

Letting the days go by/let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by/water flowing underground
Into the blue again/in the silent water
Under the rocks and stones/there is water underground.

Letting the days go by/let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by/water flowing underground
Into the blue again/after the money's gone
Once in a lifetime/water flowing underground.

And you may ask yourself
What is that beautiful house?
And you may ask yourself
Where does that highway go?
And you may ask yourself
Am I right?...Am I wrong?
And you may tell yourself
MY GOD!...WHAT HAVE I DONE?

Letting the days go by/let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by/water flowing underground
Into the blue again/in the silent water
Under the rocks and stones/there is water underground.

Letting the days go by/let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by/water flowing underground
Into the blue again/after the money's gone
Once in a lifetime/water flowing underground.

Same as it ever was...Same as it ever was...Same as it ever was...
Same as it ever was...Same as it ever was...Same as it ever was...
Same as it ever was...Same as it ever was...

Very useful website : i remembered some of the lyrics but was mixing up the song with "Mama Told Me Not To Come" by Three Dog Night 1970 Surely , a song about how a guy feels about his illicit affair. To remember just one phrase from the complete lyrics located the title : "this is not my beautiful house ..." Will recommend this website.

Illicit affair? So are you saying you are married?

Hi Christine , that's just how i interpreted the song and at that time - and since - i hav always visualised the scenario in my head : a married guy seeing a rich female , perhaps a "bored housewife". The Youtube "official video"was completely irrelevant i thought. Its a guy seeing a female : he may be married but of course SHE may be and her husband is rich but absent for long periods. As a further discussion on the subject ...you hav to get to point beyond an illicit affair and be with a soul mate who you really find attractive above anyone else, and she feels the same as you. I met more females as a non op transexual lesbian than i ever did as a male but the dual connection to reach that level was never quite achieved , but you remain true to yourself xx

It was , Christine .... so my apologies to the administrators / moderators - i imagine any conversation on here is just another way to mention this site straight away to anyone you know , who is wondering what that song title is ... In my case , a few words was sufficient ! Thanks guys !
