One Elephant, Deux Elephants

Turkey In The Straw

by Sharon, Lois & Bram

on One Elephant, Deux Elephants (1978)

Oh, I had a little chicken, she wouldn't lay an egg
So I poured hot water up and down her leg
Oh the little chickie cried and the little chickie begged
And the gosh-darn chickie layed a hard boiled egg

Oh! Turkey in the straw (ha, ha, ha)
Turkey in the straw (ha, ha, ha)
the old folks danced with the mother-in-law
As we played a little tune we call it "Turkey in the Straw"

2. Oh I had another chickie...
I poured a bus ....
And the little chickie cried...
And the gosh darn chickie laid a "busted" egg

chorus

Did you ever go a-fishing, on a sunny sunny day
When all the little fishies are a-swimmin' in the bay
With their hands in their pockets and their pockets in their pants
And all the little fishies do the hootchy-kootchy dance

chorus

Oh, I went to Chibougamau I Walked around the block
And I walked right into a bakery shop
I took three doughnuts out of the grease
And I handed the lady a five cent piece
Well, she, looked at the nickel, she looked at me
and she Said "This nickel's no good to me.
There's a hole in the middle I can see right through
Says I "There's a hole in the doughnut too.
Save and a haircut -- six bits
Tip the barber -- two bits
All together -- one buck
My cousin Jules' got big feet, but my friend Bram's got him beat

chorus

Jump in the breadbox, you crumb!"
