A Thousand Winding Roads

Almost Home

by Joe Diffie

on A Thousand Winding Roads (1990)

I just can't remember when he started slipping
From that strong, gentle giant he used to be
But now he takes forever just to walk down to the mailbox
And it hurts me so to see him growing weak

But he's almost home, soon he'll with momma
That's where he belongs
Oh, how I'm going to miss him when he's gone
He's almost home

His only Chevy pickup has already give up.
It sits on blocks beneath that walnut tree
And the weeds have taken over out there in his garden

He loves to read, but he can hardly see.

But he's almost home, soon he'll with momma
That's where he belongs
Oh, how I'm going to miss him when he's gone
He's almost home

Lord, how I'm going to miss him when he's gone
He's almost home
