American Indian Story

The Visitors

by Jana Mashonee

on American Indian Story (2006)

I see a light
Shine through the night
Heading this way

Who could this be
Staring at me
Have they come to stay

We bring them gifts
Welcome their ships
Offer our hand

They hesitate
Why would they wait
I don't understand

For eternity
The path ahead is clear
There will never be
A time we are not here

Visitors have come
To our sweet shores
Spent time before
But always went away
Now I'm afraid they'll stay

Since history began
We've made this place our home
No one can every take
Us from all that we've known

Together we will rise
In peace we'll try
To save our tribes
But everything will change
And never be the same
No never be the same
But we will remain

From
Far away
'Cross the sea
They came

Faces
Appear
Through the mist
And rain

Why
Are they here
Do they want
Or need

Hope
In our hearts
They are friends
To be
