Ladies and Gentlemen
Before I make this speech
I'd like to raise my glass
And thank you all for the meal
I won't try to conceal my thoughts
Or say what isn't true
But I must point out some facts
Which I feel may apply to you
Each day sitting smoking walking in the afternoon
On and on you go till soon
You're entertaining all your friends
And constantly on your feet
You burn the candle at both ends
You're trying hard to make ends meet
Outside the ladies and gentlemen
The ones in Leicester Square
There in a phone booth
In the mirror I saw a face
For a minute I couldn't place it
For the eyes were so forlorn
The face was white and waxen
And it knew it as my own
Each day sitting smoking walking in the afternoon
On and on you go till soon
Coffee in the afternoon
Gets cold late at night
You burn the candle at both ends
You're trying hard to put out the light
Ladies and Gentlemen
Unaccustomed as I am
To making public speech
I hope I haven't talked too long
I realise I do go on sometimes
And a short speech is the best
But I know I feel a little better now
That I've got it all off my chest
Each day sitting smoking walking in the afternoon
On and on you go till soon
Coffee in the afternoon
Gets cold late at night
You burn the candle at both ends
You're trying hard to put out the light
