Upside Down
by Agnes Poetry
on Jack Johnson Piano Renditions (2020), Leave the Light On (1998)
Something give me light
For my eyes are shadowed
I am hiding
From retribution
Though the seasons lay by my side
I feel it grip so hard
When my tears are drained
Will that stop emotion?
Or after my life is stained
Will this be...
No more...
No less...?
And I am overcast
When the sky is warm
It's the way I feel when I'm alone
I know I'm upside down
So let it come down
And wash away
All the memories
And take me, oh so far away
Where I'm not so upside down
Holding in the fear as I start to falter
I am facing the restitution
And though my life may be dark
The world is darker still
And after I've come this far
Is this all that I'll find?
After I've come so far
Can this be...
No more...
No less...?
And I am overcast
When the sky is warm
It's the way I feel when I'm alone
I know I'm upside down
So let it come down
And wash away
All the memories
And take me, oh so far away
Where I'm not so upside down
Don't leave me like this
I hate myself like this
Wondering...
(Wondering why your life's gone
Wondering why your world's so upside down)
And I am overcast
When the sky is warm
It's the way I feel when I'm alone
I know I'm upside down
So let it come down
And wash away
All the memories
And take me, oh so far away
Where I'm not so upside down
